WEBINAR: A Mental Health Response to Disaster

What is the mental health community’s response to disaster?  Following a disaster like Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy, communities are left without resources and supports needed to recover their lives. Among the many needs, emotional trauma and crisis support is often the last area of need to receive attention. Given the difficulty with mobilizing mental health resources to affected areas, these problems become exacerbated. Our panel will discuss the development of programs designed to mobilize mental health and crisis support, counsel disaster related trauma, and establish best practices in response to future events.

Presenters: Christian Burgess and Christie Wrightson

Hosts: National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors and Mental Health America
